Our Story – Ash and Matt

The Eltham Valley Pantry is a beautiful 100 year old farmhouse surrounded by lush gardens and over 300 pecan trees nestled amongst the green valleys and undulating hills of Byron hinterland.

Owners, Matt and Ash started from very humble beginnings together and concieved a small catering business (which still runs today) call Barefoot Affair. “We specialise in Raw, Vegan, Gluten-free, Sugar-free foods focusing mainly on stocking shops, cafes and doing farmers markets around the area”. They both worked hard turning a small 1 acre cattle paddock in a vibrant and sustainable organic market garden situated off Stoney Chute road where they produced fresh organic food for the surrounding community. “We gained a reputation for growing amazing veggies and cooking tasty wholesome food which was affordable and accessible to everybody”.

A few years later in 2015, both Ash and Matt were looking for something to really sink their teeth into and happened to stubbled upon The Eltham Valley Pantry. “We are both chefs by trade with silver service skills…Matt retrained in Science and I did Naturopathy at university but still we were getting drawn back to food. And now here we are…far more the wiser and proud of our grass roots in the local community”.

Now, in 2016, The Eltham Valley Pantry is fast developing a reputation for offering one of the best dining experiences in the Byron Hinterland. The ‘go to’ place to share wonderful times with family and friends. “We uphold ourselves on being reasonably priced with a focus on quality, pride-of-workmanship and regionality”.
